New bra, anyone?

Bra flat

It’s been about a year since I made one, and I had forgotten some stuff–like remembering to match the cup seams at center front. There’s a photo of it on Brunhilde in the gallery. Of course Brunhilde doesn’t really fill it out, but photographing it on her gives you a better idea of how it really looks.

This bra uses findings from one of Liz’s Fabrics and Notions coops. I don’t recall if the straps were from the coop or not, but I really like the professional look of them. I also like the elasticity and the fact that I don’t have to worry about the straps being too loose after the elastic in the bra itself has relaxed a bit.

In her directions, Anne tells you how to cut off part of the commercial strap and attach the ring to the top of the bra. That was *very helpful* and I had not noticed that before when I was using self-fabric straps.

The underwires are definitely from the coop. They are the flat kind, rather than the round ones I had before. I like the way they went into the channeling and the way they fit. Unless they do something weird with wear, I’ll use these from now on.

Inside, showing pink channeling

I had to use pink channeling. I don’t know if I had some other color, but I certainly couldn’t find it. Fortunately it doesn’t show, but the pink matches the outside, if it did happen to show. You can see that the bra cups are lined with white tricot. I used white powernet for the bridge and sides.

If you’re interested in making a bra, I recommend taking a class or starting with a kit. Bras are easy to make, but I would have never figured out the sizing or the findings without help.

Very pretty bra. Looks like a RTW bra that my DD bought at Victoria’s Secret. Good job, Beth. Hope it is as comfy as it looks.
